Designed, essentially, as an enlarged destroyer. Tatsuta carried four 14cm guns and a continuously fluctuating anti-aircraft armament. Tatsuta was used primarily as a transport and escort vessel during WWII. She ran supplies and men to the contested Islands of the Pacific and sometimes brought back the shattered remnants of those forces when they were expelled. She was eventually sunk by Sand Lance-an American submarine—on March 13, 1944.
