The Typhoon class submarine was the largest ballistic missile submarines of the Soviet Union designed by the Ruby Design Bureau. The submarine is a typical product of the Cold War era, and designed in order to support the principle of "mutually assured destruction ". Compared to its rivals, the U.S. Ohio-class, its size is near twice the size. Equipped with 20 missile launch tubes loaded SS-N-20 ballistic missiles. The ship is currently the world's largest size and tonnage of submarines record holder.
